Macadamia nuts: origin and history

Macadamia nut (Macadamia Ternifolia) is the fruit of the Queensland walnut tree, a tropical tree originating from the humid forests of Australia. It is also known as “kindal kindal” among aborigines who have been exploiting and consuming it for millennia.

This walnut gives one of the most expensive nuts in the world. Its nuts are known to be the dry oleaginous fruit richest in lipids, about 80% of its composition, including 60% monounsaturated fatty acids, fatty acids good for health. They also contain a very rare fatty acid: palmitoleic acid or Omega 7, which has the peculiarity of promoting the regeneration of cells.
